Earth Day

To celebrate Earth Day, which this year lands on 22nd April 2021, we are launching our plant-a-tree-for-free campaign. We want everyone, all around the world to be part of the Aardes slow, responsible fashion journey; consuming consciously and leaving Earth (Aarde) in a better state than we found it. So with every order going forward we will plant a tree in association with Treeapp. They work with NGOs the world over, to plant indigenous species and mangroves to help restore the worlds lungs.

We are also planning an amazing multi-sustainable-brand-giveaway on Earth Day itself by bringing our #SustainableSaveSunday to life. Head over to our Instagram to see how you can win the brilliant prizes.

Studio Share

Did you know our Studio Shirt can be worn by all? Due to high demand in sales from men, we realised we’d missed a trick - our Studio shirt has always been unisex, but we’d only ever focused on selling to women.

Based on a vintage men’s shirt, the Studio Shirt is available in size Small, Medium and Large which works across both men and women. It comes in two new print designs, the Strong Stripe and Natural Silhouette. Both are printed with chemical free dyes onto organic cotton.

Sometimes plans change…

Due to the international COVID-19 outbreak our production schedule was pushed back to ensure the safest working environments for our supply chain.

As a result, what would have been our Spring 2020 collection, is now going to be split into two.

The first drop will be available for Autumn 2020 and the second drop is available for Spring 2021.

We feel that to follow a slow-fashion philosophy we have to be able to adjust our business plans - because sometimes that’s just what life throws at you.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

June 2020

We have been moved beyond words by the international outcry at the death of George Floyd. Seeing the world come together to protest from Japan to Iceland in one of the largest civil rights movements in history has been humbling and galvanising.

As a business based in the UK, produced in India and sold globally our founding principles are that of ‘global citizens’. As Martin Luther King said ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ We feel strongly that the UK needs to address its personal race and discrimination issues.

As a responsible, slow fashion brand we believe in Intersectional Environmentalism which describes ‘an inclusive version of environmentalism that advocates for both the protection of people and the planet’ - Lea Thomas. This means understanding that ‘people who are socially, economically, culturally, politically, institutionally or otherwise marginalised are often highly vulnerable to climate change' - @ipcc.

In essence responsible fashion is directly interlinked with anti-racism.

We have already made personal donations to charities around the world supporting actively anti-racist campaigns, but we feel the work of The Black Curriculum in the UK is a charity we want to highlight for their amazing grassroots work.

The idea that we lay the correct foundations with our children’s education and build an anti-racist society on top of, and around that feels directly in line with our philosophies as a responsible and sustainable brand.

From 10th June to 10th July we will be donating 25% of all profits to support their amazing work.

Women for Women

Sustainable change starts with women

As the global Corona virus pandemic tightened its grip around the world we were thinking about the impact it would have on countries and communities who are already struggling with food shortages, political unrest, war and education or economic barriers, and how this would affect the women living in these societies.

The United Nation’s paper on The Impact of Covid-19 on Women states 'A pandemic amplifies and heightens all existing inequalities… The pandemic is deepening pre-existing inequalities, exposing vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems which are in turn amplifying the impacts of the pandemic…the impacts of COVID-19 are exacerbated for women and girls simply by virtue of their sex’.

We wanted to help in a tiny way, by offering 50% of our sales profits for the month of April, to Women for Women in support of their work helping women globally to navigate the virus safely.

“We are ensuring the safety and health of the women we serve by:

  • Distributing over 5,900 hygiene kits and 99,731 masks and bars of soap to the communities we serve

  • Organising women to sew masks and produce soap for their communities

  • Broadcasting radio programmes which reached more than 1 million people in remote and rural places

  • Continuing to deliver cash assistance to 6,190 women

  • Breaking isolation by helping women use mobile phones to set up groups and establish communication trees to stay connected. We have reached 5,443 programme participants through messaging platforms”

Covid-19

March 2020

Firstly, we hope you are well, both physically and mentally, during these increasingly strange and unprecedented times.

We want to reassure you that we are monitoring the global COVID-19 pandemic closely and explain a little bit about the steps we are taking during the crisis.

All of our stock is being stored and packed in a secure place, where only one person who is following strict social distancing rules has access. In order to minimise any risk, we are limiting shipping to once a week.

Regrettably, production of our second collection, due to launch Spring 2020, has had to come to a halt. It is for the best interests of everyone involved in our supply chain. Keep up to date on progress via our Instagram.
